The preliminary estimate for 2011, which matches a forecast by the International Monetary Fund, is slightly down from the central bank's 2% growth prediction in November. Lebanon: Gross foreign currency reserves at the Lebanese central bank rose 5.3%, or $1.63bn, to $32.24bn in 2011, the slowest growth pace since 2007, The Daily Star has reported. The reserves remain close to an all-time high when they reached $32.5bn two months ago, and analysts say that the central bank can cover nearly 80% of the Lebanese currency in the market. The central bank's total assets reached $70.3bn at the end of December, 12.3% higher than 2010, driven by a 21% rise in the securities portfolio to $11.6bn, and an 11% gain on the valuation of gold reserves which stood at $14.4bn at the end of 2011.
